Secret mission: woven scarf edition

You saw this scarf before but it didn't get a chance at glamour shots, so I thought we'd look at those today.

You know, since I went to the trouble to be all fancy with it.

As I mentioned, this was woven on an Ashford Knitter's Loom from two matching skeins of self-striping Duchess superwash merino from Twisted Fiber Art.

I love the way the colours worked out, whether they are facing the sunshine as in the above shot, or facing away from it, as it is here:

The weave is pretty open, but not too open to be functional.  Let's face it, some of my earlier attempts at weaving resulted in a fabric you could push a dessert plate through.  I'm really only exaggerating a little bit when I say that.

And as always: love the clean sharp edge of a rotary-cut fringe.

The question now is what on earth I am going to do with this thing.  I have a matching hat, but I also have a matching cowl.  I don't actually need this scarf, and strangely for a girl who is usually a super selfish knitter, I never intended it for me at all.

You might need to be sitting down, so it's lucky that you almost certainly are...

...it's a Christmas present for somebody I plan to choose much later in the year.

Isn't  that cool?  After years of intending to - and I know I'm not even remotely alone in this particular dream - I've started my Christmas crafting before the winter's out.

Now to go on the same way and kick out a few other gifty things before November.  (I know, I know, that'll be the hard part.  best not to think about it, right?)

Take care of yourself today and I'll see you tomorrow!

Yes... as long as it doesn't end up being me after all, in which case: guilty recipient ;^)

The more I read about weaving, the more I am wanting to learn. May have to check into local shops to see if they offer classes! Love the colors and lucky person who receives this gift (even if it is you : )

Marianne, it's a slippery slope - the more I weave, the more I want to get good at it ;^)
