Slice of Life hat pattern

When the weather is transitioning to or from 'deep freeze', I reach for a soft, lightweight hat made with Twisted Fiber Art's Playful.  This superwash merino sport weight yarn is so much fun to knit, and even more comfortable to wear.

The Slice of Life hat is divided up into nine sections, each marked by a vertical band of texture that conceals the pattern jog you get at the start of a round on a hat knit on four needles.

This results in a very pretty crown, which looks lovely if you're able to wear your hats perched decoratively on the back of your head.

I'm not one of those people: I like to keep my forehead warm, and I like that with this hat I can do that with the knit or the purl side out.

Hope you enjoy this pattern too!

Difficulty Level:
Moderately Easy.  This hat is knit in the round on four needles, or on a circular and then four needles for the crown; you'll also need to know how to knit or purl into the front and back of a stitch, knit two together, and slip-slip-knit (ssk).

Materials:

Twisted Fiber Art, Playful, (100% superwash merino, 360yds/120g), 140 (160, 180) yards. Shown in club colourway ‘Sangria’; colour is similar to ‘Kelp’ coordinate for Nymph colourway at Twisted Fiber Art.
4.0 mm/US 6 - 1 set double pointed needles or size to obtain gauge.
Stitch marker.
Darning needle.

Gauge:
23 sts, 29 rows = 4” in stocking stitch

Sizing:
S (21.5”), M (22”), L (23.5”)
Sample shown in M, on a 22” head.
