New Year's Day, all over again!

Oh, that magical time when some of us look back, and others look forward, and still others clean off their desks.

Oh dear: that is a lot of knitting.

Normally when I sort all the stuff on and round my desk into related stacks of mess, there isn't quite so much knitting gear.  Context: this is pretty much the whole surface you're looking at.  There are probably two more inches off to the right.  I'm not even sure how I managed to fit this much stuff into the desk's neighbourhood, let alone how so much accumulated in the first place.  After all, I finished very few things in 2013.  H'mmmm.  I wonder whether that was the problem?

That and the cold.  Best not to ask what finished mittens and hats are doing at my desk, if you can't guess.  All through the power outages from the ice storm we had, I was hoping other people had this much handknit wool around.  I mean, we never lost power, and I still needed these things.

The main takeaway: I really need a better system for starting and finishing projects, and especially for putting stuff away at the end of them.  gah!

To help, I've set aside a piece of paper specifically for jotting down ideas of things I want to knit soon, so I don't forget and start some other less important thing that caught my eye, instead.  It's only got ten things on it and already, it's scary.  But it's a start.

And I have a clean desk to face it with.  Hope you do too, and that 2014 is full of good things for you and yours!

I keep a list by my knitting area that I write ALL my WIP's. That way I can see at a glance things I need to finish which includes running in ends and getting things off the needles. It is so rewarding to cross things off. Have a wonderful and rewarding new year Mary.

Darlene, you are so right - I've already crossed something off my list (because it was finished, not because of Denial) and it feels *great*. You have a great new year too, and thanks!
